the Cacing Diaries #18

Eight months and 3 weeks

It was my birthday yesterday. Three days ago was my sister's. But there would be no picture from any of us. Instead, the treat is by and for my daughter Cacing. She's turning 9 months next week and to say that she is a handful would be a major understatement. But she is our lovable firebrand.

Everyday, we find ourselves scrambling to keep up with her. She inexorably twists from our grip so we have to be extra careful lest we drop her.

Her discovery of how useful her hands can be is growing. She can now feed herself with a biscuit although she throws it down immediately, in attempt perhaps to play with us. Then she’d look for it, as if it were a dropped toy, bending deep and searching low. Soon nothing in sight may be too far out of reach as she now works hard to get a toy.

She’d crawl although her version of the “worm” isn’t getting her anywhere fast. She’d try to stand too by holding on to someone.

Emotions are new to her and she struggles controlling them. Occasionally, she’d cry when a stranger will stare at her, never mind that they are admirers. On the other hand, when delighted, she’d clap her hands, wave her hand or wag her index finger.

“No” is something she probably understands already. She shakes her head when she had enough of her milk or if she got bored with whatever is being offered to her.

Our constant wish though is she’d eat more. For a few days her intake of formula milk dropped from her usual six to severn 125-mL bottles to about four and we panicked. It was just her teething I think as suddenly, her appetite picked back where it left off. I still have to wake up several times at night though to make sure she meets her milk target but it’s a cheap price to pay to see her healthy and happy.

Eric, Ogie,

Salamat! Nowadays, it's all about my daughter, even if the day were my birthday.
